I Hit Level 80 in Guild Wars 2 – What Should I Do Next?

Guild Wars 2: Two Perspectives on Playing the Game      This image has been sourced from the official ArenaNet website and is used here for informational           purposes only. Part One: Free to Play – No DLC Purchased Yes, we downloaded and installed the game without buying any DLC. We started Guild Wars 2 as a regular free-to-play player. After creating our character and playing through the intro, we embark on our adventure. Correct me if I’m wrong, but as a level 2 character on the Tyria map, the game gives us a raptor mount (with a 10-hour usage limit). Riding the mount around the map and trying to reach level 80 might sound fun, but leveling to 80 within 10 hours is tough. Without a mount, you’ll be walking around vast maps to complete quests. Let’s say you reached level 80 and still have your mount (which is unlikely). Once the mount buff expires, your raptor will disappear. Traveling without a mount and walking long distan...

Light Armor Classes

Image
Are Light Armor Classes Always Fragile? Let’s Talk Necromancer! When we hear the word “light” in MMORPGs, we usually think of low-health, fragile characters. While that might be true for classes like Elementalist and Mesmer, I believe we need to make an exception for the Necromancer. Necromancer might actually be the most durable open-world class when using Berserker stats. It's tanky, scary, and it was my very first character in Guild Wars 2. When you enter Shroud mode, it feels like you're immortal — your health bar practically doubles, and you start draining life from your enemies, blinding them, frightening them, and more. It’s an incredibly beginner-friendly class. So, let’s talk about it! Necromancer Plague, skulls, diseases, life force — everything you'd expect from a dark magic caster. The Necromancer turns negative effects like poison and slow into powerful weapons. The green bar might even feel like it's calling out to you: “Play me, I was made for you!” Espec...

Medium Armor Classes

Image
In this post, I’ll try to talk about the medium armor classes in Guild Wars 2. The medium armor classes are made up of three professions: Thief, Ranger, and Engineer. To be honest, I could go on and on about the Engineer—maybe it’s unfair to the other two, but I’ve never really played Thief or Ranger in the five years I’ve been actively playing Guild Wars 2. So, I can’t go into deep detail for those two classes. After all, there are nine different classes in the game, and it’s rare for a player to truly master every profession and specialization. Let’s begin then, shall we? Maybe my recommendations can help you before diving into the game. This image is sourced from the official Guild Wars 2 media page and belongs to ArenaNet. Thief (Assassin) Imagine a character you see once—and then it disappears. The next time you see them, you’re already down or dead. (This applies mostly to PvP and WvW, as you can't really duel players in the open world.) Now, picture this in PvE: you ju...

Heavy Armor Classes

Image
A Detailed Overview Hello friends! On this page, I will try to explain in detail the characters of the Heavy Armor classes as much as I know. To briefly recall the classes under Heavy Armor, they are, in order: Warrior, Guardian, and Revenant. I started playing GW2 in August 2020, and the first character I created—and mained for nearly a year—was the Necromancer. In 2021, on a friend’s recommendation, I created my first Warrior and began my adventures in Tyria. I played this character for many years, so let’s start with the Warrior class. Warrior Class The Warrior is a character who can use almost every weapon. Their survivability and health bar are quite high, and they have many skills that help them stay alive. You might not always see the Warrior in the Meta (the term "Meta" refers to the ongoing cycle of buffs, nerfs, and shifts in the roles characters can fulfill). In late game and end content, you can see Warriors both as tanks and support roles, as well as deali...

Why Should You Play Guild Wars 2 in 2025?

Image
Artwork courtesy of ArenaNet / gw2.com Introduction Even though Guild Wars 2 first launched back in 2012, it’s still going strong in 2025, standing out as one of the most beloved MMORPGs out there. While many games come and go, GW2 has managed to carve out a unique place for itself thanks to its dynamic gameplay, living world updates, and rich lore. Whether you’re a veteran MMO player or someone looking to dive into the genre for the first time, here’s why Guild Wars 2 deserves your attention this year. 1. No Monthly Subscription — Play on Your Terms One of the biggest barriers for many MMORPGs is the monthly subscription fee. Guild Wars 2 breaks the mold by not requiring any recurring payments. You buy the base game and expansions once, and that’s it — no monthly charges. On top of that, a large portion of the base game is available for free, allowing you to try it out without any financial commitment. This flexible approach makes it ea...

Which Class Should I Play?

Image
Hello! In our previous page, we discussed why one might still want to play Guild Wars 2 in 2025. Although I don’t want to rehash why you should play it again, imagine a game that welcomes you back as if you never left—even if you haven't logged in for months or even years. After this nice reminder, let’s move on to our next topic: you’ve decided to play the game. So, what’s the next question? Which Class Should I Play? This is the part where we spend a lot of time thinking in the character creation menu that appears every time we start a new game. First of all, I recommend not choosing your character just like you do in other MMORPGs. Why? There are several reasons for this. One of them is that the game currently has 9 different classes , and with the upcoming DLC at the end of October, each will have 4 specializations . For example, if you choose the Necromancer class, you play it as a core Necro until level 80. After reaching level 80, you will be presented with th...
